Before writing the article
Before you sit down to write, you must complete certain previous steps. In the case of our project, you should review all the information and research material that you have collected in this last time. In this way you will identify what is the specific topic on which you want to write. Then, you must think and define who is going to write the article you are going to write, it is not the same to write a personal opinion article than an article describing an academic event. Finally, the last step, thinking carefully about the subject you are going to write. This exercise should lead you to remember the question with which you started the research process, mentally go through the stages of deepening the topic.
The structure of an article
The introduction should answer the question of why this work has been done. Describe the interest you have in the subject you have chosen and the importance of it in the scientific context of the moment. There, in the introduction is where you define the terms of your article. The Introduction does not necessarily have to be very extensive and may benefit from what was stated in the most recent review on the subject. The Introduction is, therefore, the presence of a question, whose answer will be presented throughout the article you are writing. It is convenient that the last paragraph of the Introduction is used to summarize the objective of the study.
The body of your article must answer the question: How do I explain what I investigate, experience, and understand? To my reading public. In the body, therefore, I have the space to give reason for the researched, in this part I explain reasons and I base them systematically, in such a way that my article manages to express what I have clearly understood to others.
The content of the body can vary according to the final objective of my article, which can be dissemination, that is, others understand what I have understood, it can be a detailed chronicle of my research process, another type, too, is giving a historical vision of a specific topic, in this sense the objectives can be many.
The conclusion is a short summary paragraph in which the conclusions, last impressions or opinions that you deserve as author of the article are indicated.
Other aspects of the article
The title should be short, concise and clear. The most effective have less than 10 words and should not include abbreviations or acronyms.
All acronyms used in the text must be followed, the first time they are mentioned, in a parenthesis with their meaning.
The typeface influences the feeling of understanding of the subject you are writing. Therefore, choose a clear typeface that will help you.
Tips for writing a good article
On the use of language. Maybe for some it is a natural gift. But those of us who have not been born with that special ability can learn if we follow certain advice and ask for some help: Use short phrases. A reader is a busy person, with little time. Long sentences bore him or distract him. Short sentences are more easily constructed.
Respect some golden rules of language:
For each important idea use the short and direct phrase. The short phrase produces more impact and is better stored in memory.
Avoid weak synonyms. Do not walk around with detours or metaphors.
Use simple, short, unambiguous, precise and comprehensible nouns or adjectives for everyone.
Avoid the jargon of the super specialist. But also the local youth jargon. Write for everyone, not just for your school friends. Do not use unnecessary acronyms.
Ask a friend to read it critically. Be sincere. Do not forget that the reader is always smarter than you think.
Do not leave it for the second part of another article.
Think who you are going to. The readers is not that they do not know anything. Respect the reader’s intelligence. Write with the most sincere humility.
Imagine the questions you are asking while reading it. Go ahead to the answers.
